Some transitions arrive with more on the table than the marriage itself: a business you started, or a home your children know as theirs. Hicks Family Lawyers serves as Houston family lawyers for life’s most important transitions, bringing the depth of a corporate legal background to the heart of family law, so you get more than litigation. You get strategy, perspective, and a plan for the next chapter.

We meet Houston clients in person at our Midtown office inside the Ion, by video, and by phone.

Where You Are, Where Your Case Is Heard

Knowing where your case will be heard, before anything is filed, is part of planning the transition rather than reacting to it. For most of Houston, that means the Harris County courts downtown, roughly three miles north of our office:

Most of Houston sits in Harris County, but the city limits extend into two neighboring counties:

Our Location

Hicks Family Lawyers practices from Suite 412 of the Ion, a restored building at 4201 Main Street that anchors Rice University’s innovation district in Midtown. The office sits on the Main Street corridor between downtown and the Museum District, roughly three miles from the Harris County Civil Courthouse, so the preparation behind your case happens a short ride from the courtroom where it will be heard.

  • Parking: The Ion District Parking Garage at 4111 Fannin Street, one block from the Ion, is open to Ion tenants and guests. The Red Lot at 4203 Fannin Street, across the street, is for guest and event parking. The Yellow Lot in front of the building is for retail customers only. Both surface lots are cashless.
  • Transit: Wheeler Station on the METRORail Red Line, at Main Street and Wheeler Avenue, is a short walk from the building.
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Phones are answered 24/7.

Map links and a consultation request form are also on our office page.

Why Houston Families Trust Hicks Family Lawyers

The first conversation isn’t a sales call. You may reach us with something already in motion: a petition just served, a move being planned, a business partner starting to ask questions. We begin by listening to what happened and what you want the next chapter to look like. Then we tell you plainly what your options are and what each one means, whether you meet us at the Ion or by video from across the city.

We build your case around what you’re protecting. Houston is a city of business owners and executives whose compensation rarely fits on a single pay stub. Two divorces here never look the same once a closely held company, deferred compensation, or investment real estate is part of the marriage. Our approach starts with what you have built and works backward to the strategy that protects it, so the plan fits your family rather than a template.

You work with the lawyer handling your matter. Hicks Family Lawyers is built around direct, senior attention. Your Houston case is handled by founder Michael-Bryant Hicks, a Yale Law graduate who spent his career advising corporate executives, business owners, and boards of directors. He has also sat on the client’s side of the table in his own divorce, which is why clear communication sits at the center of how the firm works. You will not be passed to a rotating cast of associates.

We’re built for cases that don’t fit a template. The firm brings 27+ years of corporate law experience to family law, and that depth matters most when a Houston case involves shareholder agreements, stock options, or an ownership dispute inside a family business. Valuing and structuring those interests takes the rigor a board would expect, applied to a family’s future instead of a company’s. When the case is not simple, the work has to match it.

No outcome guarantees. Only preparation. No lawyer can promise how a Harris County judge will rule. What we commit to is preparation: negotiation first, because problem-solving usually protects a family better than conflict for its own sake, and a firm position whenever protecting you or your children requires one. Before every hearing, mediation, and decision, you will know where your case stands and what comes next.

What to Expect When You Call

Our consultation process is straightforward and built around three things you need before any decisions get made:

  • We listen first. Tell us what is happening. The short version is fine, and we will ask the questions that matter.
  • We explain your situation clearly. We walk through the issues that matter, answer your immediate questions, and explain your options in plain English without pressure or scare tactics.
  • We map the next step. You leave knowing what comes next: filing, responding, gathering records, or pausing to think it through.
